Writing

I made a wall of concrete,
protecting my heart.
Nothing did I let it,
nor out.
Until he came along,
my little heart peeked out
from the safety of its shelter.
seeing a heart still beating,
battle scars still visible.
He came to my rescue.
Tearing down my concrete walls like they were paper.
I liked him too soon,
loved him too hard,
and came falling back down even harder.
The landing was rough.
The protection I once had
was used against me
and turned into a weapon.
As the sharp concrete
made its presence known
against my back
I looked up
to see if he even cared to know
I survived the fall.
But I guess it doesn’t even matter
because either way
his back was turned
as he walked away.
Now I know,
Only to build my walls stronger.
