Bits & Pieces

I”ll start off by telling you this:

My life story won’t be all at once.

I’ll feed you bits and pieces of it through my writing, photos, videos, and posts. You’ll have to figure me out just as I’ve had to I’m still doing.

Growing up, the ‘theme’ question was always:

“What do you want to be when you grow up?”

And we were young, and innocent. We had our whole lives ahead of us. Growing up felt so far away–we had so much time to figure out what we wanted to be ‘when we grew up’.

So we sweetly answered:

“A teacher!” “A firefighter!” “A policeman!” “A doctor!”

And the family/friends/whoever would laugh and because they were pleased with our responses.

But I wonder what they would have said if I responded:

“I want to be a traveler!”

I have reason to believe that they would have inquired a bit more deeply about my passions. How would I make money? Would I have a family? What made me decide this path?

Of course, questions all too deep for a young mind to grasp.

But now, I have grown up. I’m a working professional. But this isn’t what I imagined I would be.

The question, in my case, has now changed from:

“What do you want to be when you grow up?” to “What are you going to do next?”

Truth be told, I don’t know.

I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up and I don’t think I ever knew.

And I don’t know what I’m going to do next.

Why was the question never asked about what makes us happy?

I think that if this question was posed to me, it would have ‘stuck’ with me. I would have truly pursued the things that make me happy and work to make a living off of them.

However–it’s not too late.

I’m in my prime. I can still make that choice.

So I chose to be a traveler.

A sloppy-writing, food-loving, optimistic traveler.
